The gulf coast of Texas is known for its great sport fishing, and Port Aransas has a long history with the sport. President Roosevelt was known to frequent these pretty flats on the hunt for trophy fish. You can’t visit the area without going out on a saltwater fishing adventure!
Kenjo Fly Fishing’s Captain Ken is a native Texan, and has been fishing for over 25 years. His fly fishing experience combined with his knowledge of the gulf waters here almost guarantees your success. Kenjo Fly Fishing charters “specializes in utilizing sight-casting techniques with technical spot’n’stalk methods.” You won’t be making the usual blind casts hoping for a lucky strike. You’ll be hunting your trophy. It takes a little more skill and patience, but is much more rewarding.
Fish from the skiff as your captain poles through the flats, or if you have the proper wading boots, go wade-fishing, it’s the best method for these flats. You’ll be hunting redfish, black drum, speckled trout, and maybe a few tarpon. Plus the lesser-known crevalle jack, (a powerful predatory fish), as well as flounder, Spanish mackerel, bonita and more.
As you fish, you can enjoy the diverse habitat and scenery of the Texas Gulf Coast, with mangroves, bird rookeries, creeks, sloughs and bays. And if the fishing is slow, you can always do a little birdwatching, as the area serves as a stopping point for migrating birds. Whooping Cranes are known to winter on the barrier islands.
Check the Kenjoy Fly Fishing website for equipment to bring (like the all-important Texas fishing license & saltwater stamp), and equipment that will be provided, including fly rods, water, and polarized sunglasses.
