Fall Guide to Port Aransas

Looking to get away from the drastically cooling temperatures of home this fall? There is plenty to do and see both inside and out on a fall escape to Port Aransas! Check it all out in our fall guide to Port Aransas below:

Beaches

While the weather is cooling from scorching summer heat, it’s still plenty warm to spend some time at the beach.  Spread out your blanket and plant your beach umbrella to lounge on the sand with a book, or step out into the sun for some sunbathing. The waters will still be warm, so taking a swim in the waves of the Gulf isn’t out of the question!

Fishing

This easy, year-round activity is one people of all ages and skill levels can enjoy, and fish are still biting in Port Aransas as the temperatures drop. Charter a tour, or rent some gear and strike out on your own; regardless of how you do it, there is great casting to be found. We recommend checking out the bays and shallow waters, piers, and jetties, or asking about the best places to see what’s biting in the Fishing Capital of Texas. Deep sea fishing trips are available for those looking for a more adrenaline-fueled experience in search of kingfish, marlin, tuna, and others who lurk in deep waters.

Surf Camp

With the waters of the Gulf only just beginning to cool, water sports will be on your mind during your island getaway. Get the adrenaline pumping with surf lessons, or try windsurfing or traditional surfing along the Port Aransas coast. You’ll learn from professional instructors during private lessons that will give you the skills you need to rent your own board and surf the waves on your own.

Undersea Adventures

There are several companies that help you take the fun below the waves: snorkeling or scuba diving tours during your fall retreat can provide an exciting new experience to any vacation! Plunge under the water to see a side of Port Aransas you can’t see up close from inside a tour boat. If you want to rent gear to dive later, you’ll need to be certified, and thankfully many companies in the area offer scuba certification before any trip.

University of Texas Marine Science Institute

Housed at The University of Texas at Austin, the Marine Science Institute is a fun educational activity for families to enjoy. The institute’s goal is to educate the public on marine science and how to take better care of the marine environment of Port Aransas and the surrounding area. It does this via public programs, lectures, and more hosted at the institute, and the Patton Marine Science Education Center is opening soon!

Glowing Kayak Tour

Enjoy a different kind of kayak tour this fall when you board a clear kayak lit up by special underwater LED lights! The clear boat allows you to see not only the multiple colors of LED light settings you can choose, but also the underwater world beneath you. Set the lights to your preference for a unique color and style. Paddle along as your tour guide points out Port Aransas landmarks and provides a wealth of knowledge and history about the area on the 1.5-hour nighttime cruise under the stars.
