Head over to Roberts Point Park for the city’s annual Trunk or Treat event. The event takes place in the Chili Field across from the large pavilion at the park. Community members gather at the park with their “trunk” or table with tent and provide treats and entertainment. Each will offer a delicious treat or a fun, interactive game. The free event is open to all ages and runs 5-8 p.m. on October 26.
Harvest Moon Regatta
Another activity to add to your October 26 schedule is the Harvest Moon Regatta. Hosted annually by the Lakewood Yacht Club, the race is in its 36th year in 2023. The offshore race begins in Galveston and ends in Port A – with a party! You can enter the race or come to watch and celebrate the winners.
Flynn’s Beach Run
Get in shape in anticipation of splurging on Halloween candy. Join the 5k, 10k, or family-friendly fun run and stretch your legs. Not only will you get your steps in, but you’ll also enjoy the beautiful beach atmosphere of the course. Join the races or come cheer on your athlete starting at 8 a.m. on October 28. Register to compete on the city website. Packet pickup is October 27 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. at the Port Aransas Welcome Center. Day-of registration and packet pickup is at 7 a.m.
Parasailing
Go up, up, and away! Take off from the deck of a specially designed and USCG-approved parasailing boat and fly high above the waters of the Gulf. Keep watch on the water from your bird’s eye view for dolphins, whales, fish, and other sea life. Feel the salty sea air on your skin as you fly as high as 500 feet above the water! Bring your waterproof or disposable camera to record the experience. Several companies also offer photo and GoPro packages for a video record of the experience from your point of view in the sky!
Surf Camp
Get the adrenaline pumping and learn a new skill at the same time. Learn to surf during your Halloween getaway to Port A. There are several companies that will teach you the basics of windsurfing or traditional surfing along the Port A coast. You’ll learn from professional instructors during private lessons that will give you the skills you need to rent your own board and surf the waves on your own.
Undersea Adventures
There are several companies that help you take water sports adventure in Port A below the waves. Charter a snorkeling or SCUBA diving tour during your Halloween retreat! Plunge under the water to see a side of Port A and the Gulf of Mexico you can’t see up close from inside a tour boat. Many companies offer SCUBA certification before the trip, and if you want to rent gear to dive later on your own, you’ll need to be certified.
Port Aransas Museum & Farley’s Historic Boat Shop
Learn more about Port A and what shaped the town into the island paradise you chose for a Halloween getaway. The museum boasts a number of temporary and permanent exhibits, with rotating featured exhibits, so no two visits are the same. The museum is located in a 1900s “kit house” at 400 N. Alister and is open Thursday-Saturday from 1-5 p.m. Tours are given by local volunteers. Admission is free, and donations are accepted. Farley Boat Works has been the premier boat builder in Port A since 1915, specializing in tarpon fishing boats. The “living exhibit” can be visited at 716 W. Avenue C on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday 9 a.m.-noon. It is closed Sunday, Monday, and Wednesday.
