First Fridays at the Art Center, April 4, 104 N Alister Street
The most beautiful towns often harbor the most talented artists, and if you don’t believe us, add First Fridays at the Art Center to your vacation itinerary. Offering live music and refreshments to every guest, it is the masterpieces of art that will capture your heart, encouraging visitors to purchase a unique souvenir that will live in a place of honor in your home, reminding you of the adventures you experienced during your Port Aransas April vacation! Also offering art classes and paint & sip experiences, if you aren’t here on the first Friday of April, it’s ok, these other activities will be equally exciting.
Port Aransas Spring Farmers Market, April 6, Fred Rhodes Memorial Pavilion
Port Aransas has always done things a little differently than other places. Our beach vacations are affordable, we don’t believe in gouging tourists, we offer beaches you can drive on, and our Farmers Market, instead of being held every week, occurs just twice a year, and when it is time for the next one, like the Spring Farmers Market coming on April 6, it will be a mega market! Offering meats, vegetables, and fruits that are actually in season not something that was forced to grow in a greenhouse, adding an extra layer of healthy benefits for consumers, the baked goods will be baked from scratch, probably within a day or two of appearing on the vendor tables. Coffee is small batch, seafood will be harvested locally, and gifts will be handmade, artwork will be painted by local artists, and the music that accompanies the whole shebang, performed by Tyler Jordan, will enhance the experience, perhaps encouraging you to sing along as you shop.
Tea with Me at Tortugas, April 12, Tortuga’s Saltwater Grill
Although we are thousands of miles away from England in both miles and vibe, the Tea with Me event held at Tortuga’s Saltwater Grill is an extremely popular one. The dress code is Sunday best and if you have been wondering what to do with all those leftover Princess costumes from Halloween or Disneyland, wonder no more; your little princess deserves to look the part, and she is encouraged to wear it to tea! Offering sweet treats, traditional tea sandwiches, and a variety of teas, this event may not be typical Texas, but we promise your kids will love this almost as much as they love their time at the beach!
Texas Sandfest, April 25 Through April 27, Port Aransas Beach
Did we save the best for last or are we just going in chronological order? That will be for you to decide when your vacation coincides with the largest beach sand sculpture contest in the nation, Texas Sandfest. The best sand sculptors in the world flock to our sandy beaches, creating sand sculptures right before your eyes and as you meander through the festival, examining each creation while the sun shines down on your shoulders and the sea waters crash against the shores, we think you will decide there is no place else you would rather be! Also offering lessons in the art of sand sculpting, demonstrations in creating the sculptures, an amateur contest, live music and food vendors, your day at the beach will take on new elements of wonder. The kids’ activity tent will ensure that your 3-12 year olds are kept busy and entertained, and the golf cart raffle could mean that you have to figure out how to pack a golf cart in your carry-on, should you win the raffle.

It’s Time for the Beach
The Gulf can get too cold in the winter months to allow for year round swimming, but as the air temperatures rise, so do the water temperatures and the hardier souls begin to make their way back in the water. Grab your gear, head to the white sands, and plan on spending at least one day of your spring journey, swimming, tanning, or simply walking along shore’s edge, feeling sea breezes tangle your hair as the water curls around your bare feet and ankles with every step. Even if you don’t swim, your day at the beach will still be good for your soul.
Pool Time
Not everyone likes to swim in the sea, even if they are the perfect temperature, and whether its still a little cool or you just don’t swim where other creatures live, the heated swimming pool of our Dunes community will offer you the fun you seek, the tanning opportunities you crave, and another way to relax outside on a beautiful spring day.
Angler’s Delight
The joy of sitting seaside with pole in hand and cooler at your side is one that can’t be overrated and in the spring, the fish are biting in all the best of ways. Spring is the season for redfish, speckled trout, kingfish, and cobia with April being the peak fishing month. Drop a line from the Horace Caldwell Pier for a nominal fee, fish for free off the jetties, or hire a charter and head out to the deep waters where the trophy fish may end up hanging off the business end of your line. Fishing licenses are required and can be purchased at fishing stores or online here.
A Good Walk Spoiled
Yes, golf is a sport that can be participated in year round, but in the spring months, even a bad day on the course will be an experience that you will never forget. Palmilla Beach Golf, a traditional Scottish links course located at 258 Snapdragon, is a 9-hole course originally designed by the esteemed Arnold Palmer offers sea views, a driving range, practice greens, and an extra 3-hole loop that allows guests to play 9, 12, 18 or even 21 holes on a day that is going extra well.
It’s for the Birds
Port Aransas offers six spots along the Great Texas Coastal Birding Trail, including Joan & Scott Holt Paradise Pond and the Leonabelle Turnbull Birding Center and spring is the apex of birding season. Grab your binoculars, your favorite birding apps, and head to either of the two places listed above or simply sit outside on the balcony of your vacation escape and spend some time documenting the sea birds you see flying around. Mustang Island State Park is another popular birding site destined to bring wildlife watchers great joy and success.
What’s SUP?
Stand up paddleboarding has been around for thousands of years, originally used as a way of sneaking up on enemies during war times, but today it is a sport that is known for offering peace, serenity, and incredible core strength to all who partake in the sport. When the sun is shining, the birds are singing, and you are paddling around the waters on a SUP board rented from Island Surf Shop and Kayaks, 130 E Avenue G, you will be living your best life.

Spa Day at Balinese Spa & Boutique, 121 Cut-Off Road in Port Aransas
The talented masseuses at Balinese Spa & Boutique offer a variety of massage services, including Swedish, Deep Tissue, Hot Stone, and their Herbal Thai Massage that combines massage with herbal therapy and helps relieve recipients of pain and inflammation. Choose between 50 minute and 80 minute sessions, or if you really want to spoil your beautiful Valentine, their Balinese Signature Massage lasts for 120 minutes and starts with a salt scrub exfoliation, followed by a Dead Sea Mud Masque wrap, a rain shower rinse off, and finally, the massage of her choice. Sweets for Your Sweet at Winton’s Island Candy, 601 S Alister Street in Port Aransas
For most of the world, the diet started on January 6th this year (normally the 2nd, but that fell on a Thursday, which is practically a weekend, so Monday, January 6th it is), and if you and your Valentine haven’t already fallen off the healthy eating wagon, good for you. Valentine’s Day is all about the sweets, though, and it isn’t considered cheating if you enjoy a holiday treat. A visit to Winton’s Island Candy will make you her hero, and although you could sneak in and pick out her treats yourself, the women of The Dunes will tell you that when it comes to candy, letting us choose our sweets is a sure way of earning bonus points!
A Sunset Dolphin Cruise with The Scarlett Lady Dolphin Adventure, 440 W Cotter Avenue
Sunset over the water is truly a magical time and as you cruise along the Gulf waters aboard the Scarlett Lady, following the friendly and frolicking dolphins while waiting for the show in the sky to begin, the romance of the moment may overwhelm you in the best of ways. Offering a full bar that serves the most delicious cocktails, wines, and beers, you can raise a toast to the beauty of another sunset in paradise, if you can take your eyes off the beauty standing with you!
A Romantic Meal at Lisabella’s Bistro & Bar, 5009 TX-361 in Port Aransas
The traditional romantic meal is a tradition for a very good reason. Because it works, of course, and a meal at Lisabella’s Bistro & Bar will be memorable for its romance factor as well as for its very delicious menu. An international menu of seafood dishes is what’s for dinner at this wonderful eatery, including options such as Mermaid Soup (lobster coconut broth, shrimp, curry, and spices) Red Snapper Belle Meuniere, and Seafood Enchiladas. Be sure to save room for dessert as their Homemade Hallelujah Chocolate Cake is made from a secret family recipe and is definitely too good to pass up!

Door Dash your dinner (again, not forgetting dessert!) or enjoy puttering around together in our luxuriously appointed kitchens, creating your favorite meal. If your vacation journey is bringing you to Port Aransas in 2025 and you haven’t finalized your vacation accommodations as of yet, we at The Dunes have some thoughts on the matter. First of all, February 5th is a new “holiday” officially known as Book Direct Day, and it has been created to show you the benefits of booking direct versus letting your fingers scroll over to the third-party websites you may have become accustomed to.
You don’t have to take our word for it; we’ve created this guide to show you all the reasons booking direct is a good idea. Booking directly with The Dunes will ensure that your accommodations will bring you peace, comfort, and a touch of luxury, all things that will make them become an integral part of your vacation experience!
A More Personal Experience
In spite of the humble beginnings of those other companies, today they are massive corporations that seem to have forgotten how much the personal touch can mean to travelers, but when you book directly with The Dunes, it won’t be an issue at all. We work here, we live here, and we play here, and when you choose us, we share all our years of knowledge and Port Aransas experiences with you. Helping you find the best Mexican restaurant in the area, directing you to the best festivals and events, giving you a concierge type experience that you would never get if you didn’t book direct.
Book Direct, Shop Local
As we stated above, Port Aransas is our home, and when you book from us, the money you spend is directed back into the community. We hire local, we shop local, and when you shop local with us, you too are doing your part in creating a healthy and bustling economy. Those other companies simply funnel the money into their own pockets, perhaps spending it there, but never really sharing the “wealth.” If we learned nothing else a few years ago, we certainly learned that shopping local is the best way to heal an ailing economy, and when you book direct, you are doing just that!
Flexibility Isn’t Just for Gymnasts
They always say that life happens when you are busy making other plans, and no matter how intent you are on following the timetable you have set up for your Port Aransas adventures, well, life can happen. And although we do have rules about when you can check in and when you have to check out, we understand that life doesn’t always play by the rules, and if you contact us, we can work with you to find a solution that helps everyone out. Flexibility is just as important as rules and we have had our own issues while traveling so we definitely understand and appreciate whatever you may be facing.
What You See Is What You Get
If you have used those other sites frequently, you have already learned that you don’t always walk into the same place that is shown on the pictures in the listing. Maybe they don’t update them as frequently as we do, maybe something came up with the property you originally rented and they had to substitute at the last minute but “forgot” to tell you. When you book directly with The Dunes, what you see is really what you get, and the pictures you have been perusing in the days that led up to your Texas trip of a lifetime will make the home feel like an old friend when you walk inside for the first time!
Saving Money by booking direct
We could go on and on about all the reasons you should avoid third-party platforms when renting your Texas retreats, but the biggest reason you want to book direct is more than likely the money you can save. Did you know there are fees assessed simply for the privilege of using those other sites? Right there we can save you almost 10% because we think it is a privilege that YOU choose us, not the other way around.
Additionally, when you book direct, you may find last-minute deals, holiday seals, or even exclusive packages that can help you save on your vacation experiences and all of this saving will enable you to put your money elsewhere. Buy a new bathing suit, ordering dessert at every meal, even putting some aside to save up for a return visit to Port Aransas can be accomplished with the use of your savings.
Book Direct With The Dunes
The luxury rentals in Port Aransas that we offer are designed to be an integral part of your vacation experience, offering comfort, style, and in many properties amazing views of the Gulf. Book direct on February 5th and receive all the benefits listed above and all the comforts you deserve!
Remember the year you went to Disney and didn’t have enough money to buy those blingy personalized Mickey ears? Or the year you went to Steamboat Springs for a week, but only had enough money to pay for three days of ski passes? Budgeting for your vacations is a very adult but extremely vital part of the vacation experience, and because we at The Dunes don’t want you to miss out on anything fun and exciting during your Port Aransas vacation, we have prepared this guide to budgeting for your 2025 Texas escape to Port A. Happy planning!
Browse our Last-Minute Rentals Here!
Parking, Fishing Licenses, and Pier Fees
We are starting small and leading up to the bigger expenses, because as every traveler knows, every penny counts, and you don’t want to forget to budget for the smaller expenses as well. Parking at the beaches of Port Aransas will cost you a one time $12 fee; it’s an annual fee, so if you plan on returning again in 2025, keep your receipt and you won’t have to budget it in a second time. If you are planning on fishing during your stay (and we will get into more on fishing later), you will need to purchase a fishing license for $16 per person for an all water type, meaning you can fish in salt water or fresh water. These can be purchased online if you want to be prepared and have your license before you arrive, or you can pick one up at the Family IGA once you arrive. And finally, the Horace Caldwell Pier has been a historic part of our Port A lifestyle since opening day in 1962, but if you want to check out all it has to offer, just know that it costs $3 per person and $4 per pole to experience it to its fullest.
Let’s Talk Food
Part of the reason you chose The Dunes for your Port Aransas vacation escape was the fully equipped kitchens that allow you to save a few bucks by eating at home, but you don’t want to skip the restaurant landscape altogether. Texas food is delicious and you deserve to indulge, and fortunately, most local restaurants run in the $10 to $20 range, keeping your food budget easily in check. Enjoy Texas barbecue in MacDaddy’s Family Kitchen (118 Beach Street), Tex-Mex at Cancun Grill & Cantina (1023 TX-361 E), and a thick and juicy steak at Blue Water Cowboy Saloon & Mercantile (229 Beach Street), all without breaking your budget. If you do want to indulge in a special occasion meal, however, you can plan on spending between $50 to $100 for a decadent seafood dinner at The Phoenix Restaurant & Bar, located at 3500-A Island Moorings Parkway. Fresh, sweet, and locally sourced, the ambience, the service, and the food make this place one of our favorite spots to celebrate in, especially when we can get a patio table with views of the harbor.
Here for the Fish
Port Aransas is known as the Fishing Capital of Texas, and as such, a large portion of travelers are here for the fish. You have choices, of course, on how much you can spend on this activity, keeping it low price and low key by fishing from the Port Aransas jetty for free, except for the cost of the fishing license, of course, and we have already discussed the $4 per pole costs of fishing from the Horace Caldwell Pier. But if heed the siren’s call of the deep waters, you can plan on spending thousands of dollars for a multiday trip into deep waters or as little as $54 for a 3.5-hour bay fishing expedition, both of which are offered by many local charter companies. The $12,000 expedition, offered by Coastal Charters, 900 Tarpon Street, is truly a luxury experience lasting 36 hours on a 56’ Hatteras Convertible Yacht, taking guests out 150 to 175 miles into the deep waters where yellowfin, blackfin, and blue marlin will be the catch of the day. Deep Sea Headquarters, located at 440 W Cotter Avenue, offers the lower priced charter, as well as some more extensive and expensive ones.

As we move ever closer to the end of 2024, you may be starting your New Year’s list of resolutions. There is something about the possibilities of the new year that makes us want to be better people, but we at The Dunes think you are perfect the way you are, and we suggest that you whittle that list down to just one very fun and very fulfilling resolution, one that brings you to Port Aransas for a vacation you will never forget. This guide to making a New Year’s resolution to visit Port Aransas will show you all the reasons 2025 will be the best ever!
You Need Some Down Time
The last couple of months of 2024 have been more than a little insane as you spent them decorating, shopping for gifts, cleaning, and worrying that you were not going to be able to find the time to do all the millions of things you needed to do before December 24th. But you did it, you made it through, and now your tired soul needs some downtime. It needs quiet walks on the beach at sunset (Forget sunrise, it’s too early and you need sleep!), it needs to sit out on a balcony as the moon rises over the surf, and it needs these wonderful moments to wind down and recharge in preparation for all the new year has in store for you.
You Need Some Fresh Seafood in Your Diet
We know we suggested only making the one resolution (You remember, the one that brought you to Port Aransas?), but chances are you may still make more, including the one in which you resolve to eat better. We want to be healthy, we want to live a long and happy life, and we know that eating well is the best way to make sure that happens, and honestly, you can’t get more healthy than seafood that has just been harvested from the waters that surround you, and in Port Aransas, there will be plenty of restaurants ready to help you eat better. Tortugas Saltwater Grill, located at 429 Alister Street may be one of our favorite ways to eat healthy, and more importantly, to eat well, saying farewell to 2024 with the Crab Crusted Fish of the day, or a Texas favorite, Shrimp and Grits.
Christmas Lingers
Just because the calendar says that it is December 31st, it doesn’t mean your heart is ready for the season to be over, and there are still ways to celebrate Christmas into the new year. Roberts Point Park has Sand Santa, a Santa sculpted entirely from beach sand, making an excellent selfie spot until January 3, and because the park seems to be the focal point of the holidays, it is also where the Nautical and Nice drive through holiday light show will stay illuminated through January 4. Most neighborhoods will still have their Christmas lights up, and eggnog will still be sold in the grocery stores, ensuring that your escape to Port A over New Year’s will still be the Christmas getaway you have always dreamed about.
Our Fireworks Show on New Year’s Eve Should Not Be Missed
Heading back to Roberts Point Park, although you could still be there experiencing the tail end of Christmas, it is time to turn your eyes to the sky for the largest fireworks celebration in the area. This show starts at 7 PM and ends at 8 PM, leaving plenty of time on this last night of the year to stop in Shorty’s Place, 101 Beach Street, and celebrate at the oldest and friendliest spot in town (It must be so, it says that on the sign hanging on their building) perhaps making some new friends and enjoying a toast to the new year when the clock strikes 12.
Rest, Relax, and Recharge with The Dunes
A night out on the town on New Year’s Eve isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, and our comfortable and relaxing escapes at The Dunes may entice you to head “home” after the fireworks and explore a more restful way to say hello to 2025. Every room offers a new way to celebrate, and as you heat up appetizers in our fully equipped kitchens, pop bottles on the balcony overlooking the Gulf of Mexico or watch the ball drop in Times Square on state of the art televisions in our comfy and inviting living rooms, you will understand that the resolution to travel to Port Aransas was the best resolution you could make. That first kiss at midnight will take on new meaning when you reserve your favorite holiday hideaway today and discover your own reasons there is no place else on earth you would rather be on this last night of the year.
The holidays aren’t always what we hope they will be, often filled with stress and drama that makes us dream of simpler days, or perhaps, makes us want to find calmer shores. The annual Christmas beach vacation has become a popular tradition with travelers, transporting them from cold, chaos, and that drama we mentioned to white sand beaches, warmer temperatures, and for the lucky ones, the quiet luxury and serenity of our Texas retreats at The Dunes. This guide to having the happiest of holidays on the Port Aransas beaches will set you on the path to magic, relaxation, and fun!
Winter in Port Aransas
The weather in Port Aransas during the winter months is anything but frightening, but it will be a little too chilly to swim, and that’s ok. Offering sunshine and temps that can hit the mid-60s, your first actions after checking out your luxurious digs will be the same as if it were summer; you will head straight to the beach! Many of you will have chosen our beachfront escapes, ensuring that you are never far from the sights, scents, and sounds of the Gulf and reveling in every minute of your experience. If this is your first trip to the beach, there simply aren’t enough words in the English dictionary to describe the majesty you will view and the awe you will feel, but as you stand at shore’s edge, your toes buried in soft white sands, watching the waves ebb and flow, there will be no room for worry in your heart, no space for anxiety in your brain. The sea, as always, takes over everything leaving nothing but peace, serenity, and joy behind.
Scenes to Remember
The winter holidays—Christmas, New Year’s, even Valentine’s Day—are meant to be spent with family, with those you love so fiercely, and the holiday scenes you experience during your stay in Port A will be ones you replay in your mind during those moments in real life that are just a little too real, and if you really want to ensure that you remember every moment, family photos will help you along. Construct a white sand Christmas tree, perhaps wrapped in red and green garland, and pose in your holiday sweaters at the most wonderful time of the year. Write your best resolution in the sand—you know the one that says you WILL travel more during the new year—and pose with your cheesiest grins and those 2025 eyeglasses that you will see everyone wearing on the television screen on New Year’s Eve. And although it is a little early to start thinking about Valentine’s Day, especially as the end of the year holidays haven’t quite played out yet, it isn’t too early to start setting the scene for the most romantic beach proposal of all time, captured forever by special friends or a simple tripod and camera poked into the sand.
Port Aransas Beaches with Sunrise, Sunset Views
There is no sleeping in at Christmas, especially if kids are in the picture, but waking every morning for a walk along water’s edge as the sun rises, turning the sky into a kaleidoscope of colors, may be the one thing your soul needed. You can always return to your sanctuary from The Dunes and tumble back in bed for a couple more hours of sleep (unless it is Christmas Day!). New Year’s Eve, however, may be the night you choose to stay up and greet the sunrise, sipping champagne through the midnight hours, sharing secrets and dreams until it is time to step outside and experience the wonder of a new day, a new year, a new sunrise. And whatever you do, don’t forget the other magical event that takes place on the other end of the day, that golden hour when the sun drops into the sea (in much the same manner as the big crystal ball does on New Year’s Eve in Times Square) and the world seems to feel alive with possibilities as the sky turns to fire.
The Moments You Will Treasure
Some of your favorite beach moments may occur without leaving the comforts of your holiday hideaway from The Dunes. Maybe your sunrise viewing will take place on the balcony that overlooks our white sand beaches, offering a much shorter walk back to your warm and cozy bed. And maybe a sunset dinner on the same balcony will let you explore the magic while remaining deliciously lethargic and delightfully comfortable. Our Port Aransas condo rentals on the beach are designed to bring comfort, relaxation, and joy to all who reside within, no matter what time of the year and as you choose your peace of mind over the chaos of Christmas at home in 2024 or experience the first moments of the new year with us in our New Year’s rentals in Port Aransas, you just may discover a new family tradition. Reserve your favorite holiday escape today!
Families are constantly evolving and changing over the years, and even as you enter each new phase, eager to see what changes bring as babies are born, teenagers move out, and then new families are formed, we can’t help but look back wistfully on previous stages, especially at the holidays. And because we know these moments won’t last forever, we often use the holidays to take the important photos, the family photos that capture a moment and make them last even as the people in them morph into new versions, versions that may not participate in the family Christmas vacation over the next years. If your journey brings you to Port Aransas with children on the cusp of moving on to their own adventures in life, this guide to where to take family holiday photos for Christmas in Port Aransas during your stay in our magical holiday hideaways will help ward off the wistful!
Sand Santa, Roberts Point Park
Every year talented artists work together to create a sand sculpture of Santa Claus, creating whimsy and the perfect backdrop to your family pics. Costing nothing to see and open every day of the holiday season, Santa may be captaining one of our Farley Boat Works boats, dropping a line in the water to catch his nightly meal—all recreated from sand and water, of course. But whatever pose he takes this year, the pose you and your family make in front of Sand Santa will be immortalized in history, even if you don’t use it for your family Christmas card.
In Front of the Memorial Christmas Tree in Roberts Point Park
Every year, the city puts up a Christmas tree that is decorated with photos and notes about those who have passed, and the solemn beauty of this treasured tree is another popular photo op spot, especially as it is resting on a platform that is surrounded by the turquoise waters of the Gulf, adding a hint of blue to the traditional red and green color scheme of Christmas in Port Aransas.
Add a Festive Touch to your Beach Pics
We’ve seen millions of versions of family beach pics over the years, with most participants wearing white clothing, smiles, and suntanned faces, but if you really want to be creative in 2024, why not give the pictures a Christmas theme? Adding a Christmas tree and a pile of colorfully wrapped gifts, your white clothing and smiling faces will stand out against all the vibrancy, and the sea, blue skies, and sunshine will help give this picture a unique look you will treasure forever.
Chapel on the Dunes, 203 S 11th Street
There are many reasons you may be celebrating the season during your visit to Port Aransas, and if yours are more personal, the Christmas photos you take should reflect your personal beliefs, making a posing session in front of the Chapel on the Dunes a beautiful idea. The white of the stucco, the green of the palm trees, and the blue of the skies will give this family photo a serene touch, but if you want to up your photo game, consider taking these shots in black and white, adding a moody and peaceful appeal to each picture taken.
Something Fun and Different
Pajama pictures are perhaps the most common of all holiday photos, but yours will offer a unique twist when they are taken at sunrise with the Gulf as your backdrop. Bring the focus low and long, as you kneel around a sand Christmas tree, perhaps topped with a red star (we are in the lone star state after all) and as the sun rises in the background, setting the morning sky on fire, and your kids put the finishing touches on your sandy tree, the moment you have captured will be one that will be remembered forever.
Take It Home to The Dunes
Some of the best holiday photos are the candid shots you take while hanging out at home with your family: your spouse helping your youngest place the star above the tree; the sheer joy on the face of your tween when the colorful gift wrap he tears off his gift reveals a video game console he has been asking for forever; a selfie taken in front of the tree, everyone in their pajamas and the hubris of Christmas morning creating a backdrop to remember. Every minute of your stay will be a photo opportunity that will memorialize this holiday getaway in such a way you will never forget. Offering comfort, peace, and a festive cheer, our escapes at The Dunes are designed to be an integral part of your vacation experience and will enhance a Christmas journey that already shines brightly. Reserve your favorite holiday hideaway today and fall in love with Christmas at the beach!
